Accessing Explore Data

Click Explore Data in the sidebar to browse all available datasets.

Browsing & Searching

Find datasets using the tools at the top of the page:

  • Search bar — Search by dataset name, description, source, or tags
  • Type filter — Filter by dataset type (File, Database, or Live API)
  • Category filter — Filter by topic like Economics & Finance, Health, Demographics, and more

Filters combine together: selecting a type and a category shows datasets matching both.

Dataset Types

Every dataset falls into one of three types:

TypeDescription
FilePre-uploaded static datasets (CSV/Excel). Great for historical or reference data.
DatabaseDirect database connections (BigQuery, Postgres, Snowflake, etc.). Query structured data live.
Live APIReal-time data from external APIs, available 24/7. Examples include FRED economic data, NASA APIs, and weather services.

Dataset Detail Page

Click any dataset card to see its full detail page, which includes:

  • About this dataset — A description of what the data covers
  • Data Dictionary — Column names, types, and descriptions so you know exactly what's in the data
  • Example Prompts — Ready-to-use questions you can ask about the dataset
  • Use Cases — Common ways people use this data
  • Source — Attribution and link to the original data source
  • Stats — Row count, column count, and dataset type

Starting Analysis

Click the Chat with Data button on any dataset detail page. This opens the dataset in AI Chat so you can immediately start asking questions about it.

Try one of the example prompts listed on the dataset detail page to get started quickly.

Behind the scenes, Formula Bot prepares the dataset for your session — copying files to your workspace, granting connector access, or loading API configuration depending on the dataset type. This happens automatically.

Requesting a Data Source

Don't see the dataset you need? Click the Request a Data Source card at the end of the dataset grid. Describe the data source you're looking for, and the team will review it for addition.
